Greg Hand, Bob Prince, Bart Simons, and Roger Mackay


Greg Hand

Greg HandGreg Hand is a licensed Master Plumber. He has served on the State of Utah Plumbing Code Advisory Board. He holds an AAS Degree from Salt Lake Community College, Professional Educators License for the State of Utah, Class III Backflow Certification, Utah Chapter President of the American Backflow Prevention Association 1996-1998, and the Utah Chapter Meritorious Service Award in 2002.

He has taught in the Apprenticeship Plumbing Program at Salt Lake Community College for 30 years, at nights, along with being a full time plumber with over 40 years of experience in the plumbing field. He has plumbed everything from houses to large commercial and industrial jobs. He currently works full time at
Salt Lake Community College as a plumber/pipefitter/welder.

Greg has taught backflow certification classes since 1985, including courses at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska, Wyoming Rural Water, Glenrock Wyoming, Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, Utah National Guard, various state, government, and engineering entities. Students have come from as far away as Texas, Alaska, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, New Jersey, even England and Korea to take his classes.

 

Bob Prince

Bob PrinceBob has been involved in Backflow & Cross Connection Control for over 25 years. He has written Backflow & Cross Connection Ordinances for several jurisdictions and either established or helped establish several Cross Connection Control Programs.

Bob spent 30 years working for Ogden City Water Utility and retiring from there as the Assistant Water Utility Manager in 2004.

In 1984 Bob started a small company named Backflow Services, L.L.C. which he still operates today. Bob specializes in testing backflow prevention assemblies and providing consultation services for several small communities, engineering firms and production facilities. His customer base is both residential as well as commercial ranging from residential sprinkler systems to hospitals, mortuaries, aerospace facilities, government installations, production facilities and food service facilities. His testing has taken him throughout Utah and into Nevada.

Around 1995 Bob started proctoring for nationally recognized test organizations and the State of Utah, Division of Drinking Water. He has proctored in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Missouri. 1998 Bob became a Certified Instructor in Backflow and Cross Connection Control. Bob is an Adjunct Instructor at Utah Valley State College and has taught several Certification Classes for Backflow Training Services.

 

Bart Simons

Bart SimonsBart Simons is the Water Sources Section Manager for the Provo City Division of Water Resources. His responsibilities include management and supervision of the operation and maintenance of Provo’s wells, springs, reservoirs, chlorination facilities, and other culinary water production facilities; as well as supervision of the cross-connection control program for Provo City. He has worked in the water industry for over 30 years. Bart is certified as a Grade IV Water Treatment and Grade IV Water Distribution Operator, as well as a Class 3 Backflow Instructor.

Bart has been involved in both the private and public sector during his career including a 6 year period in the water conditioning industry. Bart has served previously as President of the Provo City Employees Association for 3 terms, President of the Utah Chapter of the American Backflow Prevention Association during 1992-93, and is currently serving as Chair of the Water Distribution Committee for the Intermountain Section of the American Water Works Association.

Bart and his wife Becky reside in Provo where they spend their time with their children and grandchildren. Bart’s hobbies include hunting, water sports, reading and travel.

 

Roger Mackay

Roger MackayRoger Mackay has been with Backflow Training Services for more than 10 years. His expertise in proctoring is an invaluble assett to our program.
